Day 1 : Zagora – Tamegroute – M’Hamid – Dunes de l'Erg Chigaga
Your adventure starts in Zagora, heading south into the heart of the Draa Valley. Along the way, you’ll stop in the historic village of Tamegroute to visit its famous Koranic library, explore its hidden underground Kasbah, and discover the secrets of the local green pottery workshops.
As you travel through the magnificent Draa Valley, you’ll pass lush palmeraies and ancient Kasbahs, offering panoramic views of the encroaching desert. After lunch in M’Hamid, the road ends and the real adventure begins as you head off-road into the Sahara. Crossing spectacular dunes and rocky tracks, you’ll reach Erg Chigaga, the largest and most impressive dune massif in the region.
In the late afternoon, enjoy a camel trek at sunset, a magical moment where the red sand blends with the glowing reflections of the sky. Your day concludes at the camp with a traditional dinner and Berber music under a breathtaking starlit sky.
Day 2 : Erg Chigaga – Foum Zguid – Zagora
An early wake-up will allow you to witness the sunrise over the dunes, a privileged moment for photography and contemplation. After breakfast, you’ll leave Erg Chigaga behind and head toward Foum Zguid, crossing spectacular landscapes including the vast, dried-up Lake Iriqui and endless sandy plains.
Along the way, you’ll meet a nomadic Berber family to share tea and learn about their fascinating culture. You’ll also have the chance to discover fossil beds and cross the Jebel Bani mountains, dotted with ancient acacia trees. After lunch in Foum Zguid, you’ll return to Zagora in the late afternoon, your mind filled with memories of this deep Saharan immersion.
