Aït Bougmez: The “Happy Valley” Trek
The Aït Bougmez Valley, famously known as the “Happy Valley,” is nestled in the heart of the Central High Atlas. This 8-day trek offers a total immersion into spectacular landscapes, authentic Berber villages, emerald terraced fields, and a mountain culture that remains beautifully preserved.
Throughout the journey, you will share the daily life of the local inhabitants—renowned for their extraordinary hospitality and generosity—making this a truly unforgettable human and natural experience.
Day 1: Arrival in Marrakech – The Magic of the Medina
Day 2: From the Red City to the Happy Valley
Departure from Marrakech toward Demnate. Our first stop is Iminifri, where we’ll take a short walk to visit an astonishing natural stone bridge. We’ll make another stop near the village of Iouaridene to see authentic dinosaur footprints—a leap back in time!
We will then take a scenic mountain road into the striking “Red Valley” of Aït Boulli before finally reaching the “Happy Valley” of Aït Bougmez.
In the afternoon, we begin our trek in this magnificent setting with a gentle ascent through the Arous Valley, where we’ll get our first glimpse into the daily life of the Atlas Berbers.

Walk: Approx. 1 hour
Accommodation: Mountain Gîte (traditional refuge)
Day 3: Deep into the Happy Valley – Orchards and Berber Life
Today is dedicated to discovering the true essence of the Aït Bougmez Valley. We’ll wander through beautiful villages with their traditional stone and earth architecture, stroll through lush fields lined with apple and walnut trees, and experience the world-famous warm welcome of the local people.
A day of pure serenity, ending in the charming village of Rbat.
Walk: Approx. 4 hours
Accommodation: Traditional Gîte (staying with a local family in Rbat)
Highlight: Walking through the orchards and sharing tea with the villagers.
Day 4: Ridge Views and Ancient Forests – Adazen Mountain
We continue our journey by exploring more dinosaur footprints in the heart of Ibaklioun village. From there, we begin our ascent to the Adazen Ridge, trekking through ancient juniper forests. At the summit, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks, including Azouri and Igoudamen.
On the descent, we’ll follow a wide, scenic trail to the village of Ifren, finishing our day in the welcoming home of a local family in Zaouiat Oualmzi.
Walk: Approx. 4 hours 30 minutes
Terrain: Forest trails and panoramic ridges
Accommodation: Traditional Gîte (staying with a local family)
Day 5: The Heart of Berber Culture – Timit & Sidi Moussa
On this final full day of trekking through the Aït Bougmez Valley, we’ll dive deep into its natural heritage and architectural beauty. As we cross numerous villages, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to meet the locals, watch them work the fields, and observe traditional life along the riverbanks.
The pisé (adobe) houses blend seamlessly into the stunning Atlas landscapes. To crown the day, we’ll climb to the ancient marabout and collective granary of Sidi Moussa, a sacred site offering a breathtaking 360-degree view of the entire valley.
Walk: Approx. 5 hours
Highlight: The fortified granary of Sidi Moussa (UNESCO-style heritage).
Accommodation: Traditional Gîte (staying with a local family in Timit).
Day 6: From the Peaks to the Falls – Ouzoud & Marrakech
After breakfast, we take a scenic route toward Azilal to visit the world-famous Ouzoud Waterfalls. Standing at 110 meters (360 ft) high, these spectacular three-tiered falls are nestled in the heart of the Atlas. It’s the perfect place to feel the refreshing mist and perhaps spot a few local monkeys!
In the afternoon, we head back to Marrakech for a final evening in the Red City.
Highlight: The majestic Ouzoud Waterfalls.
Drive: Approx. 5 hours.
Accommodation: Traditional Riad in the Medina.
Day 7: Agafay Desert Adventure & Marrakech Unveiled
Morning: The Agafay Experience A short drive takes us to the Agafay Desert, a stunning rocky landscape at the foot of the Atlas. Choose your adventure:
Camel Trek: A peaceful ride through the golden hills.
Quad Bike Excursion: An adrenaline-pumping ride across the desert tracks.
Desert Lunch: Enjoy a traditional meal in a scenic desert camp or lodge.
Afternoon & Evening: Guided Tour of Marrakech Return to the city for a deep dive into its history with an expert local guide:

Day 8: Farewell Morocco – Departure from Marrakech
After one last traditional Moroccan breakfast in the peace of your Riad, it’s time to say goodbye. We will provide a private transfer to Marrakech Airport for your return flight.
